How to Maintain Your Truck’s Braking System for Maximum Safety.

For truck drivers and fleet managers, the braking system is undoubtedly the most important safety device in a vehicle. A reliable braking system is a lifesaver for a fully loaded truck traveling at high speeds. Today, I want to share some practical and easy-to-understand knowledge about braking system maintenance to help you ensure driving safety.

Why does the braking system require special attention?

Trucks, due to their significant weight and the weight of their cargo, possess immense inertia. A reliable braking system is crucial not only for your own safety but also for the safety of others on the road. Regularly maintaining the braking system is a fundamental responsibility of every responsible driver. 

Key points of routine inspection

1.Barometric pressure monitoring

For air brake systems, please check the air pressure gauge before driving each day. After starting the engine, the air pressure should rise normally to the specified value. Observe the rate of air pressure drop; if the leak is too rapid, it indicates a leak in the system. 

2.Braking response test

In a safe area, gently press the brake pedal to feel the braking effect. If there is any unusual softness or an increased braking distance, check immediately.

3.Listen to the sound

If you hear a harsh metallic scraping sound when braking, it is very likely that the brake pads have worn to their limit and need to be replaced immediately.

Regular maintenance projects

Brake pad inspection and replacement. Brake pads are consumables and typically need to be checked every 20,000 to 30,000 kilometers. During the inspection, pay attention to the thickness of the brake pads; if the wear is close to the limit mark, they must be replaced immediately. Do not wait until they are completely worn out before replacing them, as this will damage the brake drum and increase repair costs.
