Faced with genuine parts and aftermarket parts, many owners and maintenance personnel find themselves in a dilemma: genuine parts offer guaranteed quality but are more expensive; aftermarket parts are more affordable, but their quality varies. OEM parts refer to parts manufactured by the excavator manufacturer or its designated partners and sold through official channels. These parts strictly adhere to factory standards in terms of materials, workmanship, dimensions, and performance, ensuring a perfect match for your equipment.

Aftermarket parts refer to parts manufactured by third-party manufacturers that are not authorized by the OEM. These include both fully qualified and high-quality brand-name parts, as well as some low-cost imitations, with significant differences in quality.

Price Comparison: Short-Term Investment vs. Long-Term Costs

In terms of one-time purchase price, aftermarket parts are typically 30%–50% cheaper than OEM parts, or even more. For users with tight budgets and infrequent equipment use, aftermarket parts can indeed alleviate the pressure of one-time expenditure. However, the true "budget" cannot only be considered in terms of purchase price; operating costs and lifespan must also be taken into account.

OEM parts, though more expensive, have a longer lifespan and lower failure rate. For example, an original oil seal might cost twice as much as an aftermarket part, but its lifespan can be 2-3 times longer, and it can effectively reduce hidden losses such as oil leaks and downtime. On the other hand, if a cheaper aftermarket part malfunctions, it can cause secondary damage to the equipment, resulting in higher repair costs. The labor costs and downtime losses from frequent replacements often far outweigh the initial price difference.

Quality and Risk: Reliability Determines Total Cost

Excavators typically operate in harsh environments, requiring extremely high strength and durability in their components. 

OEM parts: They have strict standards for materials, heat treatment, and dimensional tolerances, ensuring good compatibility with equipment and stable performance after installation. There is basically no need to worry about compatibility issues.

Aftermarket parts: While some well-known brand parts are of acceptable quality, the market is flooded with substandard products. Inferior aftermarket parts are prone to premature wear, breakage, and poor sealing, and can even cause cascading failures—for example, using a substandard filter can lead to engine cylinder scoring, with repair costs often exceeding tens of thousands of yuan, making it a poor investment.

Which type of accessory is more suitable for your budget?

If your equipment is used for high-intensity, long-term projects, requires low failure rates and high uptime, or is still under warranty and contains critical components such as engines, hydraulic systems, transmission systems, and safety-related parts, then I recommend using OEM parts.

If your equipment is an older model, original parts are discontinued or difficult to procure, or the equipment is used infrequently and the parts are non-critical, and you choose reputable brand-name aftermarket parts and can tolerate a certain level of quality risk, then aftermarket parts are an option.

Calculate costs rationally and choose the appropriate option based on the scenario.
